How to gamify a forum
I am in the process of building a new kind of forum platform that will allow users to create a social forum for any topic they desire.
I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for how to gamify a forum?

You may want to check out what professional communities like Stackoverflow, Avvo, or the SAP Comunity Network are doing in order to encourage members to participate in forums.

You can use this mechanics - XP, levels, achivements, statuses, power, leaderboards.
Select what you want users to do (create topics, answer, etc), set points for this actions. If player earn some quantity of points he gets level up, or even became moderator.
Have you read the book "Gamification by design" ? There are example how to gamify forum.
Also stackoverflow is good example.
